Courses that go well together for a weekend away. Where I’ve reviewed a course, its name links to the review and shows my score. Drive times are rough, by car, between the clubs. Green fees are the visitor rates each club published when I checked in October 2026, so check before you book. If you want to play for less, have a look at the open competitions.
A links weekend in Hartlepool
Two links courses on the same stretch of coast, about 20 minutes apart. Seaton Carew is the top-rated course on the site, and Hartlepool is in the dunes at the north end of the town, with the sea alongside you for a lot of the round. Either way round works.
| The courses | Seaton Carew 9.0 and Hartlepool |
|---|---|
| Between them | About 20 minutes and 7 miles, through the town. |
| Green fees | Seaton Carew prices by demand: £60 to £115 midweek and £65 to £140 at weekends until 31 October 2026, then £60 to £65 midweek and £70 to £75 at weekends in November and December, and £55 to £60 midweek and £65 to £70 at weekends from January to March 2027. Visitors play the Micklem course in summer and the Old course in winter. Hartlepool is £65 midweek and £75 at weekends, with visitor times after 11am midweek and after 2.30pm at weekends. |
| Cheaper ways on | Hartlepool’s winter series pairs opens are £40 a pair, £20 each, on a Thursday about once a month from October to February. They’re on the open competitions page. |
| Where to stay | The Marine Hotel on the seafront at Seaton Carew, under a mile from Seaton Carew Golf Club. Premier Inn Hartlepool Marina and Travelodge Hartlepool Marina are both in the middle of town, between the two courses. |
A Durham weekend
Three parkland courses just west of Durham, all within about 15 minutes of each other. Brancepeth is the best of the three on my scores. I’m a member there, and the review says so. Add Roseberry Grange, north of the city, if you’ve time for a fourth round.
| The courses | Durham City, Brancepeth Castle 8.6 and Crook 7.3, with Roseberry Grange as an extra |
|---|---|
| Between them | Durham City to Brancepeth is about 10 minutes, and Brancepeth to Crook about 15. Roseberry Grange is about 25 minutes north of Durham City. |
| Green fees | Durham City: £40 Tuesday to Thursday, £45 Friday to Sunday, and £25 before midday on a Monday (the 2025 rates, still on the club’s website in October 2026). Brancepeth doesn’t publish a visitor rate, so ring the club; society days for 12 or more start at £35. Crook: £25 on weekdays and £30 at weekends. Roseberry Grange: £28 any day when I reviewed it. |
| Cheaper ways on | Brancepeth runs plenty of opens in 2027, from £25 a head. They’re on the open competitions page. |
| Where to stay | Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf & Spa at Carrville is a short drive from all three, has two courses of its own and sells golf breaks. In the city, Hotel Indigo Durham and Delta Hotels Durham Royal County are both on Old Elvet. |
A Teesside weekend
Wynyard and Billingham are about 10 minutes apart, and Seaton Carew is about 20 minutes from Billingham if you want a links round to finish. Billingham plays its shorter Millennium Course in winter, so go in summer if you want the full course.
| The courses | Wynyard 7.9 and Billingham 7.8, with Seaton Carew 9.0 as an extra |
|---|---|
| Between them | Wynyard to Billingham is about 10 minutes. Billingham to Seaton Carew is about 20. |
| Green fees | Wynyard: £80 from May to October and £65 from November to April. Billingham: £35 midweek and £40 at weekends (summer 2026), with visitor tee times from 9.30am on weekdays and 10am at weekends. |
| Cheaper ways on | Wynyard has a team open on 24 October 2026 at £100 a team of four, £25 each. It’s on the open competitions page. |
| Where to stay | Premier Inn Wolviston/Wynyard is about a mile from both courses. For something nicer, Hardwick Hall Hotel at Sedgefield is about 6 miles from Wynyard. |
Slaley Hall and Bellingham
Two courses at Slaley Hall, the Hunting and the Priestman, and Bellingham about 45 minutes away. Stay at Slaley, play both its courses, and do Bellingham on the third day.
| The courses | Slaley Hall, Hunting 8.0, Slaley Hall, Priestman 7.3 and Bellingham 7.7 |
|---|---|
| Between them | Slaley Hall to Bellingham is about 45 minutes and 25 miles. |
| Green fees | Slaley Hall doesn’t publish green fees. They’re priced live on its booking site, and its own vouchers for the Hunting start at £80. Bellingham: £37 on weekdays and £42 at weekends from May to September, £32 and £37 in April and October, and £15 and £20 from November 2026 to March 2027. |
| Cheaper ways on | Slaley Hall’s golf breaks include dinner and breakfast, with one, two or three rounds, or unlimited golf over three nights. Slaley also has a team open on 11 October 2026 at £120 a team of four, £30 each. |
| Where to stay | Slaley Hall itself, with its golf breaks on its website. Near Bellingham, Riverdale Hall Hotel is under half a mile from the club, and Battlesteads at Wark is about 5 miles away. |
No hotel or club has paid to be on this page, and none of these links earn the site anything. If that changes, it’ll say so here. Drive times are rough guides from route planning. Green fees are from each club’s website, checked on 4 October 2026.
